These are the educational objectives of the new three-year degree cycle with national restricted access in Prevention Techniques in the environment and in the workplace, established within the degrees of the Health Professions by the Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine.
It is one of the novelties of the training offer of the Unict for the new course, together with the triennial of free access in Management of Companies for the Sustainable Economy, that has the headquarters in Ragusa, the máster in Sciences of Human Nutrition from the Department of Biometec, and the renewed master’s degree in Data Science from the Department of Economics and Business. Thus, the total number of study courses offered by the University of Catania rises to 104, which include three-year courses, master’s degrees and single-cycle master’s degrees.
The figure of the prevention technician in the environment and in the workplace is missing throughout the country: the course is born, therefore, of a close synergy between the University and the world of work that aims to improve aspects related to the training of the local people. qualified staff and mitigate early school leaving.
Specifically, graduates exercise their functions through activities of supervision, control, consulting, opinion, research, information, training, education, management and research, as well as quality assurance.
The training is implemented through the learning of basic disciplines (Applied Physics, Embryology and Biology, Biochemistry, Anatomy, Histology, Physiology, Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology) and, subsequently, through the learning of more strictly specific disciplines (Occupational Medicine , Law, Technical Physics). , Sanitary and Environmental Engineering, General and Applied Hygiene, Medical Statistics).
Cultural training is enriched with useful teaching to ensure the acquisition of the behavioral, relational and communicative skills needed to move in a complex work environment. Special attention is paid to the sciences of prevention in health services (general and applied hygiene, forensic medicine, occupational medicine, radiation protection) but also to first aid as well as management and engineering issues.
“The curriculum is quite innovative and is enriched with multidisciplinary skills – explains Professor Caterina Ledda, reference of the course -, in particular it is the first course of the University of Catania that provides for the teaching of Gender Medicine.”
The training network also includes the medical and veterinary prevention departments of the provincial health authorities, the maritime health offices, the prevention and protection services of public and private bodies, ANCO.RS, Assoesercenti, Confindustria Siracusa, Strazzeri Group, OEM srl and Gesind srl. .

But what will be the career opportunities of future prevention technicians?
