There are nine new schools, primary and secondary (primary and secondary), which will see the light in Lombardy thanks to the first 60 million euros of the regional tender “Spazio alla Scuola”. “Offering modern, functional and technologically advanced schools – said the Regional Councilor for Education Fabrizio Sala – must be a priority. With this announcement we wanted to work with the Pnrr allocating its own resources to a topic, that of the school building, which our territory is increasingly indicating as a priority. ”There are three funded interventions in the province of Brescia: the new primary school in Ghedi (7.2 million euros) and the new secondary schools in Mazzano (7.7 million) and Erbusco (6.8 million).

Ghedi’s new primary school

The project proposal involves the construction of a new building for primary school (Nzeb – Almost Zero Energy Building – energy class A4), with the demolition of part of the existing school building. The school will be organized as a modular system where the basic unit is the classroom, imagined as a spatial environment that -through retractable walls- becomes a completely reconfigurable area that expands from the space of the corridor to outer space.

The walls of the classrooms will be enabled with sensory and manipulative equipment and structures that can become different work surfaces, facilitating different ways of working and learning according to the situations and activities to be carried out within the school education. The natural spaces will be playful, ecological places, and will offer students and teachers a wide range of learning opportunities.

The multipurpose themed rooms can also accommodate neighborhood associations (music, theater, art, etc.) offering spaces for evening activities. At the head of the new building, with a direct view of the green, is the library space. A multifunctional space in which there will be appropriate functional tools for consultation, research, deepening, reading and carrying out cultural initiatives and contact with the public (for example, thematic conferences, in-depth studies, etc.) the existing connectivity throughout the school complex.

The new high school in Mazzano

This is a new building for the high school, which will be built in the green area adjacent to the existing school building, consisting of classrooms, laboratories and offices for teaching management, leaving an old building not functional to the service. . The construction of a protected walkway, which also acts as an entrance canopy, is planned to reach the gymnasium and the auditorium of the original high school building.

Building designed for 450 students / 18 classes consisting of two floors above ground, inscribed in a square of approximately 40×40 m, with a rectangular central courtyard. It is characterized by a coating composed of organic forms that create a covered porch for the entire urbanization of the building, consisting of a vertical sun protection system.

The interior includes classrooms of different sizes but with the use of movable walls between them and also between laboratories and connectives, guaranteeing the possibility of following an innovative teaching that overcomes the stereotype of the frontal lesson. The flexibility of the spaces is also guaranteed by the flexibility of the furniture that allows in a short time the transformation of the places according to the wishes of the teachers.

Erbusco’s new institute

The project for the new building, which will be used as a high school in Erbusco, to replace the existing building and the gymnasium of the adjacent school, was selected through a public competition of ideas at the European level. The architecture of the school adopts a system of ‘comb’, occupying as much as possible of the flatness that offers the lot. The choice of such a structure is especially effective in ensuring a homogeneous orientation, with identical lighting and ventilation conditions in all classrooms.

The school complex is imagined as a composite organism, as if it were a small village surrounded by nature. Set of environments designed in direct relation to the outdoor spaces, the latter designed as important contributions for the realization of the didactic activity. The architectural body is characterized by four blocks that rise above a gallery, intended for free and informal activities, where ordinary classrooms converge and laboratories are distributed.

The teaching classrooms have been designed as flexible and modifiable elements and through a system of sliding walls the classrooms can be connected to each other, allowing the realization of group activities and school classes. All classrooms open onto the garden through a west-facing glass wall protected from the sun and rain by a deep concrete canopy. The possibility of transforming the corridors into areas with dynamic functions for educational and leisure activities is envisaged.
