VATICAN – Thirty years after “Redemptoris Missio” and “Dialogue and Announcement”: a Congress in Urbaniana
Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – Three decades after its publication in 1991 for both documents, “Redemptoris Missio” and “Dialogue and Announcement” remain fundamental pillars of the Church’s mission. Based on this consideration, the congress “Thirty years of ‘Redemptoris Missio’ and ‘Dialogue and Announcement’: news, fruits, new opportunities” will be held from 21 to 24 June, organized by the Faculty of Missiology of the Pontifical Urban University , the Pontifical Urban University. , by the International Association of Catholic Missionaries (IACM), in collaboration with the Pontifical Missionary Union, the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue.
In addition to reflecting on how the two documents have so far inspired missionary work and evangelization in the world, Congress looks forward to its current validity, wondering if and how they can provide guiding principles for the mission of the current Church, which responds to new challenges. , in a rapidly changing world. The interventions of specialists from very different perspectives, ecclesial and academic, and from missionary contexts, will offer fruitful stimuli for reflection and exchange. A special feature of the conference, hosted by the International Association of Catholic Missionaries (IACM), is to give the opportunity to students of missiology, professors of the Urban University, as well as other participants, to share the their research and ideas. , delivering short articles or reflections in working groups and discussion.
The work on “Thirty Years of Redemptoris missio. Fruits and New Opportunities” begins on June 22, an intervention commissioned by Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples. On June 24, the “African Responses to Mission Challenges in the Light of the Redemptoris Missio, Dialogue and Announcement” by Fr. Onykachukwu Joseph Amaegwu, SFM, Bigard Memorial Seminary, Nigeria. Following is the report “The mission of the Church in the light of new religious developments. Reflections from Latin America”, by Leandro Bedin Fontana (‘Institut für Weltkirche und Mission’ in Frankfurt).
The work ends with a plenary discussion with all the speakers, while the final considerations are entrusted to IMO Fr. Wojciech Kluij, President of the IACM. The Eucharistic celebration presided over by the cardinal. Luis Antonio Tagle will be the closing act of the Congress.
