“Fuoriserie” guys, for them the “second half of school” is crucial (16/06/2022)

There Don Mazzi Exodus Foundation came to the conclusion of a four-year journey with the project “Donmilani2: Ragazzi Fuoriserie”, selected by the social enterprise With i Children as part of the Fund for the Fight against Educational Poverty. And he wanted to celebrate that moment a hybrid eventin the presence of the Casa del Vento of Bagnoregio with the Cooperativa Gli Aquiloni, partner of the project – e live on Facebook, in relation to all educational institutions, from the south to the north of Italy – involved in the initiative.

One moment to say it he wanted to take stock of a new model of non-formal education in which the Foundation firmly believes. In this journey the educators they experimented with new educational tools in several Italian cities where Exodus is present: of Bovalino – in the province of Reggio Calabria – in Milan, of Verona on the island of Elba. It’s still there Assisi, Viterbo, Cassino, Gallarate, Cologno Monzese.

A new method that has put “life out of school” inside school. Art workshops, music, theater, sports, social gardens, reading, sailing excursions. And more cooking classes, emotions, photography classes. Moments of encounter between them, even of confrontations and silences, because today’s preteens are afraid to listen to each other and believe in themselves. A project that accompanied the boys and girls during school hours and continued in the following hours, in the second half of the day.. For the Foundation, the end of the project, and the evidence that emerged from it, they are the beginning of a new journey, always with the boys.

The projectRemembered Franco Taverna, coordinator of the Foundation’s adolescence areahas exceeded expectations, both in quantitative and qualitative terms. We had hypothesized that we would reach about 800 young people a year, while we have reached almost a thousand. In the 18 partner schools at the start of the project, just as they have been added over the yearseven if it were not the same continuity with all ».

“The project,” Taverna continues, “was present in 9 permanent educational centers of the Foundation in five Italian regions; to these was added a cross-cutting action with Exodus Elba with an educational project on a sailing ship. The construction of educating communities in the different territories has had different developments and alternating phases strongly conditioned by the particular period of pandemic that has put in crisis the most fragile networks above all. We shared the weight of so much suffering, sometimes hidden and not always obviousbut standing next to the boys we have also often felt the compression of so many potentialities, the inadequacy of school curricula in the face of some singularities. We have experienced that teenagers can only emancipate themselves if they jump the mold. This project it confirmed us in the need to be demanding with ourselves and with the school“.

We have had the confirmation that a radical change in teaching is needed – Taverna continues -, an adaptation of the language of the school, a proximity and attention to the “senses” of the children, a real openness to the experiences and adventures, to beauty. things of the world. We need fundamental elements, the educational axes that this project has shown and proposes to us: What do you need? First hub who gives us this project: look, you have to know how to look at guys, know how to listen to them. The second: must be offered, give them back adventures, there is a need, there is an urgent need for adventures, to go out. And this project has given the opportunity to experience many, because learning places are not just the school. We used to always talk about the weather, the routes, I think we also need environments suitable for children, if there are child-friendly environments, children live thereand one of the most important environments for boys is the road, the road, the adventure. Last crossroads is that today this educational task can no longer be done alone. And here it comes the subject of allianceswe must ally ourselves with the administrations, the ministries, the research centers and first of all with the families and the educational centers. The alliance family, school, educational agencies it is the pivot around which social enterprise With children has built and put as a slogan in his projects: the educational community“.

“Non-formal education is one of the strategies in which we must continue to invest with conviction,” he said. during the act in his message the Minister for Equal Opportunities and the Elena Bonetti Family. “So is non-formal education in the middle family policies in the reform of Family Law, we wanted to introduce this element to promote the prominence of girls and boys, girls and boys, in supporting the planning of the country. We do so with conviction and urgency following the effects of these years: the pandemic has hurt, torn, increased inequalities among the younger generations. It is important that Exodus has carried out an extremely innovative project, which was able to create alliances and shared visions. Non-formal education means precisely this: the prominence of girls and boys, recognizing their dignity in being able to participate in the educational processes that involve them. Non-formal education is already recognized at European level as one of the most effective actions in empowering young people. The Third Sector together with the school build not only a network of proximity but an effective network of response and action of educational processes. I think so it can become not only a model, but also a new method with which the country wants to carry out the educational responsibility ”.

Many guys are “Fuoriserie”, but each is Fuoriserie in their own wayRemembered Marco Rossi Doria, president of the social enterprise Con i Bambini. “And girls and boys who experience a situation of fragility when they are very young,” she added, “may prove it more than others. We know that strong synergies and alliances are needed – in mutual respect – between school, extracurricular, third sector, municipalities, operators, to ensure that our children find the path to success in fragile areas of our country. We are proud to have shown that this is possible thanks to the projects we have supported with the Children. The real question is, “What do we do now?”“The projects are coming to an end, and we need to make an honest speech. We were born to experience things that can work, but then it is up to the citizens, the state, the regions and public finances to give continuity. The PNRR is an opportunity: to address the gaps there is a fund of one and a half billion within it Ministry of Education. And then the European Child Warranty, the European Guarantee System for Vulnerable Children, provides for further funding. We must all work together so that these public funds can serve to give continuity to the best things we have experienced ”.

Educational poverty is immense“, He says don Antonio Mazzi, President of the Exodus Foundation in live connection from the national headquarters in Milan. “The truest, most authentic places that should be higher, the ones that should be from an educational point of view, now they have reached the lowest and I mean that. Because, for example, if there is an uneducated place in Italy, it is the Parliament, and even the Vatican is not always precisely a great educational place, and in these hours, perhaps, also the judiciary. We at Exodus are a springbut we are a spring within a strategic locationbecause we are a spring within the skin of this deseducating society, a pebble that bothers you because it is located in a strategic place. This is the wonder of our experience. “

This experience will not end here – keep on Don Mazzi – We don’t have to and we can’t finish it here and as an athlete I say that we are still in the first half. In the second part I dream: I would like the word made to measure to disappear. I’ve also always been a bespoke fact, until high school, I was a bit of a naughty student, as it was called back then. What we call bespoke today, limit. I hope that at the end of next time, instead of talking about bespoke guys, let’s say we did a unique series, because we have to be the pebble of the state shoe. Because it is not enough to do our job well where we are, but we must learn to provoke, to stimulate the institutions to consider what today are the so-called custom cars to be the first in the series.
