Summer Solstice 2022: presentation of the Sardinian astrotourism network

He Summer Solstice is approaching and this year you can also see the sky in some of the most evocative places on our island thanks to the events organized by the network Astroturismo Sardegna with expert guides in archeology and astronomy.

It starts at sunset Saturday 18 June at the Nuraghe Losa with astrophysics Barbara Leo and tone Church of St. Peter of the Images in Bulzi accompanied by the chorus of the vocal complex of Nuoro, until Friday, June 24 in Tetiwhere you can observe the sun with a telescope in the Pura Nuràgic de S’Urbale after discovering the properties of the medicinal herbs used in the traditional rites of Sant Joan.

Many other events are planned throughout the summer in collaboration with the Sardinian Union Planetarium to admire the Supermoon, Saturn and the shooting stars immersed in the magical atmosphere of the archaeological and naturalistic treasures of Sardinia.

The summer program will be presented at an online press conference in which we will also talk about the financing obtained by Astroturismo Sardegna in the context of Complex project “Sardinia, a sustainable island” by Sardegna Ricerche with the aim of creating a network between companies operating in the field of management, promotion and enhancement of cultural and environmental heritage throughout the Sardinian territory.

The summer solstice is that special day when the sun seems to stop in the sky to mark a new beginning, an important moment in the life of the Nuragic peoples. It will be possible to discover it on Saturday 18 June thanks to the guided tour of the Nuraghe Losa with the guides of the Paleotur cooperative, followed by the observation of the sunset with the astrophysicist Barbara Leo of the Orbitando association. The meeting is scheduled for 6.30pm at the box office.

Participation fee: € 20 per person for adults, € 10 per person for children up to 13 years old. Payment will be made at the box office.

CHURCH OF SANT PIETRO DELLE IMAGINI, BULZI (Sassari)

It was the beginning of the 13th century when the monks living in San Pietro delle Immagine decided that the extension of the church would help them to mark the time of prayer and to orient it towards the summer solstice. On the longest day of the year, the sunset enters through the narrow windows to draw the corridors with games of light that move in sequence until they come out into the apse. This year the solar show will be accompanied by the choir of the Vocal Complex of Nuoro, touring among the most beautiful Romanesque churches in Sardinia.

7.30 pm: guided tour of the outside of the church
8 pm: start of the concert inside the church
8.30 pm: guided tour to admire the projections of the summer solstice.

The afternoon will continue at the adjacent restaurant.

Sunday, June 19th

Dawn observation with the archaeologist Ilaria Montis of the Sardegna Sacra project, which from the best place for the observation of the Solstice will explain the importance of this moment of transition for the Nuragic and other ancient peoples.

Appointment at the box office for the purchase of tickets at 5:30, from there we will move inside the archeological area. From 8 to 9 a break for breakfast can be consumed in the Nuraghe Losa café. At 9:15 am the guides of the Paleotur cooperative will accompany the visitors to discover the nurag.

Punctuality and the use of closed footwear and appropriate clothing are recommended.

Participation fee: € 20 per person for adults, € 10 per person for children up to 13 years old. Payment will be made at the box office.

The rate does not include breakfast, which includes two different baskets:
• coffee or cappuccino or barley or ginseng + water + slice of cake for 3 euros
• juice or soda + water + slice of cake for 4 euros

SUNSET
Archaeologist Ilaria Montis will also guide visitors to watch the sunset show at the Nuraghe Losa on the afternoon of Sunday 19 June. The meeting is scheduled for 6.30 pm at the box office, from where the guides of the Paleotur cooperative will leave for a visit to discover the nurag until a few minutes before sunset.

At Nuraghe Losa you can see the magic of sunrise and sunset for the summer solstice with the guidance of archaeologist Ilaria Montis from the Sardegna Sacra project also on Tuesday 21 June.

Friday, June 24th

S’URBALE NURGIC TOWN, TETI (Nuoro)

The “Rites of Saint John: Myths and Legends” initiative is scheduled for June 24, a day in the name of archeology and astronomy organized by the Tacs cooperative and the Teti Archaeological Museum in collaboration with the Planetarium Sardinian Union.

9.30 am: meeting and collection of tickets;
10.30 am: guided visit to the Nuragic Village of S’Urbale and observation of aromatic medicinal herbs with therapeutic virtues linked to the traditional rites of the magical night of San Giovanni;
11.30 am: observation of the sun through a telescope with the guide of the astrophysicist Manuel Floris from the Union Sarda Planetarium and the history of tales and legends about the sky, the planets and the stars;
1 pm: for lunch break the proloco di Teti proposes the menu of San Giovanni for 20 € (roast pork, sheep with coat with potatoes and onions, vegetable garnish, typical bread, pecorino and goat cheese, water and vi);
2.30 pm: guided tour of the Archaeological Museum of Teti;
3.30 pm: Astronomical seminar by Manuel Floris in the Museum’s Assembly Hall;
5 pm: in the Pietro Lavra square performance with the songs dedicated to the traditional “Sas Bagadibas” (single girls) of the night of San Giovanni, when the young people of the village declared with sweet serenades of love to the girls who were in love . with.

The total price for the whole day is € 20 for adults and € 10 for children up to 12 years old, without lunch.
