Back to the future. The whimsical design of the sixties and early seventies lingers in Porsche’s latest limited edition handmade series.
The Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur pays homage to the sports car manufacturer with the Porsche 911 Sport Classic, a car that breaks molds and captures the attention not only of Porsche fans and lovers of classic cars. Porsche Design presents the 911 Sport Classic Chronograph along with the launch of this unique car. This model embodies the spirit of the 60’s by wearing it on the wrists of drivers and will be reserved exclusively for the owners of the 911 Sport Classic. The intricate details, inspired by the new limited edition Porsche model, make this watch an attractive example and a true “sports car on the wrist”, in line with the Porsche Design philosophy.
The spirit of the 60’s is with today’s performance
Like its street instrument counterpart, The new Porsche Design Chronograph 911 Sport Classic inspires with its sporty design, constant precision and high quality workmanship. The two-tone titanium watch case, titanium and black, light and durable, is the basis. The dial and hands are based on the Heritage Design tachometer: white chronograph hands and green numbers and indexes reveal at first glance what decade the Chrongraph 911 Sport Classic found its inspiration in.
For the first time, Porsche Design is offering a selection of different watch dials for this model, all in line with the central theme and design features of the redesigned Porsche 911 Sport Classic. In addition to the classic matte black dial in Heritage Design, you can choose the iconic Sport Classic stripes in light sporty gray or the typical nugget pattern of the 60s, which also covers the interior of the car.
The applied Porsche Design icon is gold, which matches the Porsche logo on the back of the vehicle and the limited edition badge inside the vehicle. The second disc includes the gold inscription “911 Sport Classic Lim. Series”. The set is protected by a seven-layer anti-reflective sapphire crystal with a very resistant coating.
COSC certified caliber – Load rotor designed to look like the edge of the car
The COSC-certified Porsche Design WERK 01,200 heartbeat beats inside the new watch. The flyback function allows the user to start, stop and reset the second hand in a single action. The laser-engraved “Start / Stop” and “Reset” buttons highlight the functions of the clock. While in sports cars the wheels transfer the power of the engine to the road, in the clock this important task falls on the rotor, which is mechanically wound with each movement of the wrist.
The design of the 360-degree winding rotor is based on the rim options available for the 911 Sport Classic and includes a cover that resembles the center wheel of vehicles and includes the historic Porsche Shield. The two straps included with the watch – one in sophisticated black and the other in elegant Classic Cognac – are inspired by the interior of the car: they are made of the same leather as the interior of the limited edition car and are ‘end with the letter in relief. “911”. A quick-change system makes it easy to change belts without the need for additional tools.
Always one step ahead: the legacy of Porsche Design
Professor FA Porsche, creator and designer, is famous for saying: “If we wanted something, we had to do it ourselves“.
And that’s why this extraordinary watch, in addition to being handmade, and with great attention to detail, was created in a very special place: the Porsche Design manufacture, founded in 2014 in the Swiss city of Solothurn. This unique site brings together the best experience in sports cars and watches to create a perfect symbiosis between the two disciplines, combining the most sophisticated design standards with unbeatable performance and craftsmanship. The resulting watches distill all the fascinating elements of the Porsche brand so that they can be savored off-road.
The Porsche Design Chronograph 911 Sport Classic is available exclusively to owners of the Porsche 911 Sport Classic 2023. It will be available for purchase through Porsche dealerships or online at porsche-design.com.
